Ashley’s work has a narrative quality that explores the balance of her own existence and identity among the domestic life in which she is surrounded; using self-portraits, her children, and home environment as the focus of her images. Her images show an environment where motherhood, everydayness, and the human psyche are all hanging out together. She mixes these with repurposed materials and a variety of other mediums and objects to convey her constructed storytelling. The remnants of fabrics and materials, some retired from their former uses too precious to discard, are given a new role as the foundation and support of each piece of art. Her work is a visual tapestry of her life; almost like how quilts were used for storytelling so long ago.
